Will I get jail time for driving with only a learning permit and getting a citation?

More details to this question:
Tonight I got pulled over for my headlights being off and I got a citation. I have no licence though only a learners permit yet I had someone who had a license in the car the car with me. I've looked up possible out comes now I'm worried about jail time or possible impounding of the car.

You will not get a jail sentence, just a fine. You must follow the law to avoid getting a criminal conviction in the future.

My gut instinct is that you won't get jail time.

You will not get any jail time if the car was not already impounded it will not be in the future.

When the officer cited you, did you get arrested? If not, you probably won't get jail time, but will have to pay a fine. But, to be sure, I would check with a criminal defense attorney.

Unless you have a prior record, I doubt that you would get jail time. A lawyer could probably get the fine reduced.
