Any laws that protect homeowners from prior owner code violations?

More details to this question:
Bought a home, then 6 months later received a letter from the town that a basement kitchen and bathroom had no permit. All work in question was done by prior owners, do I have any legal case against them?

The title search and policy should have uncovered these issues.  You may have a title insurance claim, and you should make one.  Your lawyer should have reviewed these searches from the title company.  There is no claim against the prior owner unless it was reserved at closing.
