QUESTION

Can a driver's licence number be copied?

Asked on Jan 21st, 2014 on Landlord and Tenant Law - Idaho
More details to this question:
We rent the facilities in our Pct 2 community centers, and usually make a copy of the renter's dl# for our files. A potential renter came in to rent the facilities, and when we asked for her dl# to make a copy; she said that it was not legal to copy her dl# because she worked for an attorney and know that it was against the law. Thank you.

She has a right to refuse to give you her DL, but you have a right to identify her and to refuse to rent to her if she doesn't provide it.

Not in Michigan. do no deal with persons who will not give positive ID as generally they tend to be bad credit risks.

Tell her to rent somewhere else. I am not aware of any law that prevents that.
