Can I evict my tenant legally or ask him to leave?

I just found out my "tenant" is a registered sex offender. The neighbors are up in arms. We do not have a formal written rental agreement of any kind. He sleeps on my living room couch and he pays me $200 a month. What type of notice must I give him and how do I word the notice?
If there is no written rental agreement, then he is a month-to-month tenant. You can give him a 30 day notice to move if he has been there less than a year (60 day notice if more than a year).
