QUESTION

Can i toss my Ex-boyfriends stuff?

Asked on Mar 12th, 2023 on Landlord and Tenant Law - Michigan
More details to this question:
My ex moved out over a year ago. I told him no less then 4 times in text messages that he needs to come get his stuff. The last contact of any kind was April 18th 2022. I own the house, he was not on any type of lease and did not pay rent. I plan to partly remodel the house and sell it in 2023 to move to another state. Can I throw out his stuff/get rid of it since he has still not gotten it or shown any interest in getting it after a year.

send him written notice that he has x amount of time (depending on where he is 30 days is probably reasonable) to claim his property, after that period of time you reserve the right to throw it out or donate it to charity.
