My husband and I were renting to own a house. The lease was signed in January 2012. No walk through was done. My brother in law lived there from the beginning and after a few months, we took over paying but we did not get the lease switched over. He lost his job and couldn't pay rent. I told the owner the whole story. My other brother in law was also living there. My husband and I never did. The owner posted a notice on the door telling them they were being evicted and had until the end of February 2013 to get out. But, then my brother in law got a call from the owner saying that they could pay $150 a week and they will sign a new lease. Three days later, they told them to get out as soon as possible. The owner has been slandering my name saying the house was in shambles. I have pictures proving otherwise. My dog did break out of her kennel one day and destroyed a door and broke a window that was cracked when we first started renting. We paid a $650 security deposit and had a $1200 credit towards buying the house. The owner is threatening and bullying us. My question is with them posting the eviction notice and then making a new agreement with my brother in laws, can the landlords do anything to my husband and me?
