We moved into a rental and owner claimed they would clean out stuff left unwanted by other family members. This was never done. There was a china hutch and for 2 years while I lived in the house it was used and housed my china. One of the grandkids said I could have the piece and saw I was using it and never said a thing. This grandchild is now the manager and now that I am moving they said it is theirs and they want it back. I removed other items while living in the home that were considered junk (old couches and rugs). Nothing was stated about the furniture left behind in the rental contract.
Many homes are rented out furnished. If you don't have evidence that the property was transferred to you as a gift or for some sort of consideration, you are unlikely to win this argument.
