Do i have to pay damages?

More details to this question:
Hello! My name is Courtney. This past summer i subleased an apartment in michigan so I could work in my college town for the summer. While I lived there my other 3 roommates absolutely destroyed the apartment (broken table, cabinets, beds, etc). They repeatedly told me that I wouldn't have to pay any of the damages and that they would cover them all. Now that we have the damage bill after moving out ($1000 total) they want to split the bill four ways. We were on a joint several liability lease so I believe I do not have to pay any of the damages. My roommates are now threatening to sue me because I am refusing to pay the damages that they caused ENTIRELY. They are calling me non-stop, calling me off different numbers, to the point of panic attacks and in result i had to change my number. Given the situation and lease we were in, would I have to fork over money fr the damages that they accumulated? Or am I right not paying the damages? Thank you for any help!

Courtney The 4 of you would be equally liable to the landlord.  However, among the 4 of you, responsibility would usually be allocated based on "equitable" factors like who did the damage.  Based on what you wrote, if they sued you to recover a share, they would likely lose.  I would tell them to take you to court or leave you alone.
