does a mortgage get filed with the county clerk

More details to this question:
Bought a home the homeowner holds the mortgage it was done through a lawyer but now the mortgage has to be revised from husband and wife to a trust and the effective date .

Yes, the mortgage does get filed with the county clerk.  Most of the county clerks have websites and you can access the documents on line.  The mortgage holder was most likely revised for their tax planning purposes, but you should have been involved in changing the mortgage documents.
