More details to this question:
We bought the property as our home and later rented out. Can insurance company deny claim if property is rented out and not owner occupied?

Yes, most likely.  The terms of your homeowners insurance policy likely contain provisions that the property is owner occupied.  If that status changes, you are required to notice your insurance company.  If you do not, you are technically in breach of the terms of your policy and the insurance company can deny coverage.
