QUESTION

How do I clear a mechanics lien on my house?

Asked on Oct 31st, 2017 on Residential Real Estate - New Jersey
More details to this question:
We did a large renovation 7 years ago. The GC went bankrupt. I was trying to refinance a Home Equity loan and got denied because of the presence of a mechanics lien from a subcontracted plumber. We didn't know about it until then. How to clear this?

You still should have received a notice of the mechanics lien. If the subcontractor didn't follow all the parts of the NJ Mechanics Lien Law then you might be able to bet it overturned.  Edward Zohn, Attorney at Law, 908.791.0312
