How do I clear a mechanics lien on my house?

More details to this question:
We did a large renovation 7 years ago. The GC went bankrupt. I was trying to refinance a Home Equity loan and got denied because of the presence of a mechanics lien from a subcontracted plumber. We didn't know about it until then. How to clear this?

You still should have received a notice of the mechanics lien. If the subcontractor didn't follow all the parts of the NJ Mechanics Lien Law then you might be able to bet it overturned.
