how do I get rental and security monies returned to me?

landlord is claiming I caused damage before move in.

Make a written demand.  If more than 30 days has elapsed since you vacated the unit and ended the lease and the landlord has not provided you with a breakdown of the security deposit you may be entitled to statutory damages.
