My boyfriend and I moved into a two bedroom apartment and signed a one year lease with another couple in January. We didn't know the male in the other couple was violent. He has destroyed the apartment, punching holes in the wall and has also destroyed my personal property. He kicked a 200 pound TV towards me after an argument between all four roommates. The police were called but the roommate who caused damage fled the scene before police were about to arrive but a police report was made and my boyfriend and I got a protective order against him. We have court early next month. We were told by our leasing office to obtain the protective order if we wanted to break the lease with the other two roommates and move into a one bedroom. We are not really sure why we need to go to court for the protective order and if we would need to go back to court for the damages he's caused to not only the property but our own personal belongings. We have paper work he signed admitting to the damage he caused and how he would fix it or pay us our portion of the security deposit. We also have a voice recording of him admitting he was at fault for the damages to our property. And now we will have fees from breaking the lease. Can the other couple be liable for that as well? I've never been to court before and I am just not sure what to expect. This is all just a big mess and I could use some advice. Thank you
You do not give enough information about exactly why you are going to court. I can assume it is to confirm the PPO? Is there a separate lawsuit to recover the damages?
