QUESTION

Is intent to renew binding?

Asked on Mar 29th, 2023 on Landlord and Tenant Law - Florida
More details to this question:
Our lease is not up until July 1st. I texted my landlord to find out how much she would be raising the rent for the next year lease. She responded with the new rent amount and said to let her know what we decide. If I text her that we intend to renew, is that binding? We wouldn't sign the new lease until shortly before this one is up as usual. If something better came along and we changed our minds (which is doubtful), as long as we let them know in plenty of time is that okay? Or is the text acknowledgement of intent to renew binding? Thank you!

Not likely. An agreement to make a lease in the future is not a lease.
