QUESTION

Is this guy trying to screw us?

Asked on Nov 12th, 2014 on Real Estate - Colorado
More details to this question:
My roomate and I are moving and we found this house on craigslist and it was perfect for us so we emailed the landlord and he sent us an application form and then after we sent it back he told us we were best renters he had seen and he wanted us to be the renters so he sent the lease agreement with it. I haven't seen it personally, but my roomate says the landlord signed it. The landlord wants us to send him a $700 deposit on friday even though we aren't moving in until december. After he recieves that then he will send us the keys to the place and my roomate says that it states this on the lease agreement.

It is not unusual for a landlord to demand the security deposit at the time of the lease signing, even though you may not take possession at that time.
