QUESTION

Is this retaliation and can we fight it

Asked on May 13th, 2023 on Landlord and Tenant Law - Florida
More details to this question:
My parents and I live next door to each other. I moved out at the end of March. My landlord tried to keep most of my deposit. I informed her that they went over the 30 days to give me my deposit and list of any damages. They didn't want to give me my money, but ended up sending it by certified mail. The same day they sent my parents a letter saying they had till the end of the month to move out because they didn't renew their lease and she has put them on month to month. I have been renting for this landlord for the last 5 years and she has only asked me about renewing maybe twice. The landlord does things backwards where we live. I feel like it's retaliation. My parents have been in contact with the landlord and never once did she bring this up to them until I asked for my deposit back. What can be done. We need help.

There is no "we" in the equation. Sounds like you poisoned the pool for your parents with your interaction with the LL. There is no requirement that the LL renew an existing lease for any reason.  Your parents will need to retain a lawyer if they have any specific issues or need to interact with the LL on the issue.
