QUESTION

Rejection by a Home Owners Association

Asked on Feb 18th, 2016 on Real Estate - Michigan
More details to this question:
I executed a 2 year lease with an owner of a condo in January and paid full fees. The owner received a call stating that I must be "approved" by the board first and that I could not move in on the agreed date. She has now been asked for additional background checks and letter of recommendation for my child behavior. I was approved by the owners Management company prior to paying the security deposit and first months rent. My credit is clean, no criminal history, my driving record is clean, my income is verified? What are legal reasons a HOA board could deny a valid lease contract? I feel I am not getting the whole story and have already given notice for my current home to vacate on Saturday. I asked for the By-laws but was denied a copy.

Condo Associations are notoriously powerful and unreasonable. You just have to deal with them if you wish to live in such a neighborhood. Sorry. Good Luck.
