QUESTION

Roommate with child

Asked on Aug 22nd, 2024 on Landlord and Tenant Law - Michigan
More details to this question:
My 20 year old son is moving into an off campus apartment with 3 known roommates. They have a fourth roommate that they were given by the apartment complex. They just found out (1 day before moving in) that the 4th roommate has a 5 year old daughter that spends every other weekend with him. My son and his college roommates are very uncomfortable with this situation and angered they were not notified of this. Do they have any rights? There is a clause in the lease that states there cannot be a visitor that spends more than 4 nights per 40 days.

I would have to see the lease but unless tenant 4 co-signed the lease with your son, I would be curious how #4 got on the lease document I think a letter to the LL saying they are breaching their own clause in the lease and demanding #4 be housed elsewhere is the right way to go. I do not understand how #4 got on the lease in the first place
