QUESTION

same sex housing issues

Asked on Jul 01st, 2016 on Residential Real Estate - New York
More details to this question:
I have been looking for a home with my girlfriend. We are both employed by law enforcement agencies, are 30 years old and have the funds and salary to support a home. We have looked at probably 10 homes, two or three that we put an offer on. Every home we have bid on seems to fall through very quickly. Our real estate agent said he has never seen someone outbid so many times. One person outright told our agent he didn't want to hear anything we had to say, even though we raised our bid. We are starting to get the impression that we may not be getting fair treatment because we are a lesbian couple.

Most people who sell want the highest price.  While in apartment rentals management can sometimes discriminate to maintain a certain character of the building, it does not happen in home sales where the person is moving out anyway.  I do not think this is the issue.
