More details to this question:
In 1994 we took out a $6,000.00 loan, the bank put a lein for the loan on our property, in 2000 the loan was paid off. In 2008 I had a housefire and my records were destroyed. I have a chance to sell the property but when they did a title search it came that I still have the lein on my property. The bank was sold to another bank in 1998 and then resold to a European bank in 2009. When I had a credit check done in 2008 my credit report shows that the lein was a zero balance. We have contacted the bank but are not sure how to proceed. How do I get this lein taken off my property?
You have to get a release from the bak to prove that it was paid. can you get anything from the source of payment? did you pay it off by check or credit card? then even if its back to 2000 you can get some record of that. Whichever bank bought the bank that gave you the loan, you can write to them, show them that you paid, show them what ever proof you have found, and ask for a warrant of satisfaction. You can find the form on the NJ Judiciary website.
