QUESTION

What are my rights?

Asked on Sep 07th, 2022 on Real Estate - Michigan
More details to this question:
Hello, My Radio Equipment was stolen by a neighbor. My Radio Equipment is considered medical equipment for me so I really need it back. It is also worth well over $6,500, so a small claims case won't help. I have written the owner of the house a postcard requesting my property be returned no questions asked and he did not reply. His grandson is the theif. They have connections to local police , so a civil stand by is not a likely outcome. What are my rights here?

You have the right to get your stuff back. You will need a lawyer. It would help if you have a witness to the crime. File a criminal complaint and a civil complain for triple damages under MCL 600.2919a. The case sounds like a slam dunk. Also you can get attorney fees and attach the dude's house for harboring the stolen property.
