QUESTION

Can I file for SSDI in Guam?

Asked on Nov 06th, 2018 on Social Security Disability - North Dakota
More details to this question:
I’m temporarily in the Philippines. I need to apply for SSDI. I was diagnosed with advanced arthritis in or about 2000. I applied for SS benifits on or around 2000. I think I was approved but the benefit amount was so little I could not live off it. I continued to work till August 2018. Over the years the mobility and pain have increased. I can no longer work! And have difficulty walking or standing. Advanced arthritis in my ankle joint. No cartilage at all. Very little mobility and severe pain. I do have old medical records at the hospital where surgery was performed. If I were to get new x rays here in the Philippines, would SS accept them? Please email for initial response

SSDI and Social Security retirement benefits -- but not Supplemental Security Income -- are payable abroad. I know of no rule excluding medical records obtained abroad. If your local Social Security office is Guam, that is where you should apply.

This is general information. It cannot substitute for a personal consultation with an attorney. It is not intended to be legal advice or imply an attorney-client relationship.
