Can I get SSD if I've already applied for early SS benefits?

More details to this question:
My job was eliminated in June. Since I am 63 years old I applied for early Social Security benefits. I was recently diagnosed with mild emphysema and have had spinal pain for most of my life. I have spinal stenosis in all sections of my spine and degenerative disc disease. I am also considered obese.

Yes, you can apply and it's strongly recommended.  You may qualify for SSDI and this benefit can pay out more than retirement pay.
