QUESTION

Do you have to be completely unemployed to file for ss disability

More details to this question:
My health was run into the ground by prescription drugs for BP by incompetent doctors. I suffered through hell for over a year before I found a doctor that helped me. I have major arthritis issues and don't know how long I will be able to continue working. This were so bad I could not wear shoes or work clothes. I had to start my own small business so I wouldn't be homeless. Now my hands and wrist are being affected and I don't know how long I will be able to continue working. I have no relatives of any kind living. And if I have to give up work completely then I will have no where to go.

Eligibility for Social Security Disability Insurance is based on both having paid into Social Security and, due to a listed illness or its equivalent, being unable to participate in substantial gainful activity (earning more than about $1200/month) for an expected 12 months or having a condition expected to result in death.  You can read more at www.ssa.gov.

This is general information. It cannot substitute for a personal consultation with an attorney. It is not intended to be legal advice or imply an attorney-client relationship.
