QUESTION

How can I claim my deceased husbands s.s. benefits?

Asked on Feb 27th, 2013 on Social Security Disability - Arizona
More details to this question:
I have applied for disability benefits due to my excessive injuries but denied stating the reason was because of lack of credits. However, I worked with my husband who was a self employed minerologist/geologist for 25+ years. We have filed taxes under our business since 1988. I am over 50, but under 65, so I know I could get survivors benefits IF I could be found disabled- and then the viscious circle begins...I cannot get disability because I have no credits...Why can I not get disability? Especially when I want to claim survivors benefits? Or, just how do I make this work??

Update Your Profile
As long as your husband has sufficient credits you should be able to apply for Disabled Widow's Benefits.  You will have to prove that you meet the criteria for a disabled widow.Your credits (or lack of credits) is not relevant. You are too young to get retirement if you are under 62. You want to apply for DWIB benefits, not survivor benefits. Make sure the application reflects your husband as the wage earner and his SS number.
