Social Security when do you have to give it?

More details to this question:
My mother is setting up her beneficaries and wants to add me but keeps asking for my ssn. I do not like giving it out and do not wish to have it on paperwork like that. Do I have to put on there?

I would guess this is for her life insurance policy. Call the company or her agent and see if it is ok to just put the last four digits of your SSN on it
