QUESTION

What can I do to get approved for SSI?

Asked on Jun 13th, 2016 on Social Security Disability - Ohio
More details to this question:
I was just recently released from incarceration after 15 years of imprisonment. I have developed random seizures (I cannot approved to drive). I have skin cancer (I cannot work in the sun). I do not have the technical experience/education to do a typical "desk job". Since I have been locked up for 15 years I am not familiar with any of the new gadgets and gizmos in today's world. Alot of the things at jobs are unfamiliar to me. I have no source of income or way to earn income. Do you have any suggestions or advice for me?

If, and this is a big if, you are under ongoing active medical care for your seizures and skin cancer, and I do not mean treatmnet at a local clinic, but with a neurologist and an oncologist, then you could consider applying for SSI benefits You would also want to obtain your prison medical records to file as part of your claim along with the complete office charts/records of all medical provider of all type that you have seen since your release.  You would need to remain under active medical care. There exists in the regional economy many unskilled entry level jobs that do not require any existing skills.  Depending on your age -- if you are under 50 -- this could be an issue.
