I began to suffer pain November 2019. I eventually seeked medical treatment and found out I had stage 4 osteoarthritis in my hip with a labrel tear and bone Spurs. I have been off of work since April because my job do not allow work with restrictions. I spoke to my specialist and at this point my only option is surgery to replace the hip. I later spoke to the doctor telling him my concern that if the hip was replaced I don’t think my problem would be resolved because of pain and swelling in knee that also cause pain walking. X-rays confirmed Spurs in the knees and osteoarthritis as well. Do I qualify for collecting my social security? I wanted to say the issues I have with my body is work related but my doctor just says sometimes it’s hard to prove. I am 44 years old and have worked for Walmart going on 26 years. During that time frame I have been a stocker and worked strenuous repetitive work. This has been my only source of work since I was 19.
While you appear to have paid into Social Security the necessary amount of time to qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (like taking Social Security retirement early), you will do so only if your disability makes you unable to do any work. You may not be able to work at your current job, but you could fold napkins or monitor security cameras.
It is highly unlikely that your work caused your disability, let alone that you could prove it in a court of law.
