QUESTION

Can I change my IRS auditor?

Asked on Aug 17th, 2011 on Taxation - Illinois
More details to this question:
I have been audited for 2007 and the auditor took over a year to complete the audit of that year, which is now going to appeals. The supervisor previously would not allow me to change auditors. The same auditor is now opening 2008, and I would like to get another auditor assigned. How can I do this and do I have a right to it? thanks

Generally the IRS will not honor your request to change auditors unless you have a specific and compelling reason to do so. Delay in working your case is generally not grounds for changing the auditor. However, you will get a different agent at the apellate level.
