More details to this question:
One of my clients, nonresident foreigner, visited US in 2008 with his wife and a kid. Unfortunately, his kid died in the municipal pool. Recently the case was settled at the court between him and the town. He will receive $1.2M after lawyer fee. The money will come to the Estate account. I'd like to know the tax effect for the settlement reward for him as a nonresident.
