QUESTION

Moving to NV from CA - CA State Taxes

Asked on Mar 10th, 2021 on Taxation - California
More details to this question:
I presently live in California and own a home here. I work for a company that has a California office but work from home. I want to move to Nevada and am buying a house there. I am transferring all of my accounts, car registrations, driver's license, and voter registration to NV. I am abandoning my Homestead exemption on my California home and making my NV home my principal residence. I am going to keep my California home as a vacation home, or may sell it at some future date - I just think it's a good investment to hold it for the time being. I can also transfer the title to the CA property to a NV trust if that's helpful. I just want to know the level of risk that CA will come after me for State income taxes after I make the move? I only plan to be in California here and there on some weekends, and if the temperature in NV will exceed 105 degrees or so.

Update Your Profile
You should be readily able to show NV as your residence. You will have a rental agreement in NV in your name, and a rental agreement in CA showing you as the landlord. Make sure your W2 is changed to NV and you have a NV address to file your IRS 1040. Good luck...
