My wife's previous husband died owing the IRS taxes in 1995. She has been held responsible for that debt by the IRS. We married December 2019. If I open a joint checking account with her can the IRS attack that account. Even though it is my money going into the account also?
Yes. They can levy a joint account. My question is if the debt is from 1995 it should be expired by now.
Have her call IRS at 800-829-1040 and ask if there still is money owed.
