QUESTION

New Jersey Inheritance Tax

Asked on Mar 23rd, 2021 on Taxation - New Jersey
More details to this question:
A friend passed away (lived and passed in New Jersey) and I (living in New York) am named in the will as a beneficiary to receive a $4500 check. I have a couple of questions I hope to receive help with: 1) Am I correct that, even though I live in New York, I have to pay the New Jersey inheritance tax? 2) If my research is correct, I am a class "D" beneficiary and will be taxed 15% ($675)? 3) Am I expected to pay the tax ASAP on my own after receiving the check? Or will the state of New Jersey send me a form/mailing?
