QUESTION

Can a beneficiary be changed by POA?

Asked on May 30th, 2016 on Estate Planning - Pennsylvania
More details to this question:
I was POA but his sister had a fit when the man got dementia really severely and he had to be put in a nursing home. I gave him POA but now since he passed, I think she may have changed the beneficiary. That he had me as sole beneficiary. Can she do this or could she have him sign it over to her while he was not of sound mind?

You need to review the entire situation including the documents reviewed by an attorney. Generally, only if the language of the POA document specifies that the Agent can change beneficiaries in an insurance policy, will this be permitted.
