We are alone in the country. I am a husband and 2 kids. We are in the process of legalization. We have two children. One kid is a citizen of another country, one US citizen. People say that if something happens with the parents(for ex. die), then the children will be going to foster families, even if the child is not a US citizen. How can I protect my children? How can I create conditions they have the opportunity to go to relatives who live abroad and will not be able to come here because of the visa.
Most states have a document, often called a Temporary Power of Attorney, by which both parents can appoint someone else to take children to the doctor, enroll them in school, etc.
A different form must be signed by both parents giving consent for the children to leave the country. They must also have passports and visas, plane tickets and an arrangement with the airline for unaccompanied minors.
