More details to this question:
I have a special needs son nearly approaching 18yrs old. His school informed me that I will need to get guardianship or conservator over him. I'm totally lost and don't know where to start. Is this something I have to pay for? Is it expensive? I have to make all decisions for him he can't do anything for himself,he's nonverbal also.

As a general rule, you will need to hire an attorney to be appointed guardian/conservator. However, I would go to the probate court in the county where you live and talk with the clerk about the process. They might have a shorter process for you to follow.
