QUESTION

How can I cash an estate check?

Asked on Jul 05th, 2016 on Estate Planning - Florida
More details to this question:
The check is made out to the estate of my deceased husband (he died in 2012) from his mortgage company. I refinanced the house in my name that was our homestead and the check was the remaining escrow of taxes and insurance ($3,086). There was no will, and the funeral and medical payments were less than the check. All shared bank accounts have been closed and the bank will not issue a new check in my name or let me cash this check at their local branch.

You should consider pursuing a summary administration in the County where your husband has lived at the time of his death.
