I would like to be removed from my grandmothers guardianship. I am 22 years old and since I have a learning disability (not mental) she was able to still hold custody of me after the age of 18. I am a senior in college and I am 4 classes shy of graduating but the amount of pressure she puts on me is unbearable and can no longer be dealt with. Unfortunately my grandmother is extremely racist and when she met my boyfriend she threatened him to leave me alone and also yells at me when ever I talk to him or bring up his name. Not only that but she forces me to take medication that makes me feel uncomfortable and makes me moody throughout the day. She is very controlling and treats me like a child to the point where people notice it and say something about it. I need this guardianship to end as soon as possible because I can no longer stand living this way. Please have someone help me regarding my matter. Thanks! -Jordan
You will either have to petition the court to have a new guardian appointed, or claim that you have gained capacity. If you want to try to go without a guardian, you will need to provide medical evidence, like a doctor's letter, that says you are competent and able to govern yourself. It might be easier to ask someone else to serve as guardian. Good luck.
