How do I about getting the deed in my name?

More details to this question:
My grandfather passed away years ago and he owned land, about 25 acres. We had an oral agreement between us. The land would be mine when he passed but we never had the deed transferred. I have been paying taxes on it for over 25 years. I would like to sell the land. There are no other relatives to contest this.

In order to get the deed in your name, you would need to open a probate estate in the county where your grandfather resided. If he had a will, that would also need to be probated. If not, then his estate would pass by the laws of intestate succession. Although you have paid taxes for 25 years and had an oral agreement, it may be complicated to get the property transferred if there is not cooperation of the other next of kin. That's going to be a fairly complicated process and you're going to need an attorney. What county are you and the property located in?

And oral contract with the deceased is very difficult to enforce. Land of the deceased must be transferred by the probate court, to get sole title you'll have to get all the other relatives with a claim (your parent, aunts/uncles and cousins) to disclaim their right to inherit.
