QUESTION

Is it possible to stay anonymous after winning a large lottery?

Asked on Oct 31st, 2013 on Estate Planning - Nebraska
More details to this question:
Can a trust beneficiary stay anonymous if a trust representative collect a big lottery win on behalf of the trust? I want to know if it is possible to win a large lottery in New Jersey and stay anonymous using a trust or some kind of other legal entity. So if someone asks the lottery commission on the winner they could only get information about the trust and not the people protected by the trust.

It really depends on the laws of New Jersey. Some states allow winners to remain anonymous, some don't. If you won, talk with a New Jersey trust and estate attorney. If you have not won yet, wait until you do.

Some states allow a winner to remain anonymous but most require that the winner show up in person to accept the "check" and be available for publicity purposes.
