I'm a beneficiary to my Aunt's Will that was made in MI. in 1997. She moved AZ in 2007, got sick and moved to IA, in 2016 and passed in IA, 7/12/21. Items of her EState were distributed by ZOOM 8/20/21. Don't know the value of the Estate. There are 3 Co-Trustees: my sister, her husband, their son. I have been trying to get the value of the Estate, Accounting and inventory. The Co-trustees, the attorneys, and the CPAs tell they do not know the value of the Estate and will not answer any more of my questions. They said, if I had any more questions, the questions would have to come from my attorney, I don't know the the of anything in any of the 3 states I mentioned. Meaning property, savings or cash. I finally got a K1 they wouldn't give to me. So my question is, what state do I go to hire an attorney to get all the info I should be getting. It seems to me, something is being done wrong and the are trying to keep me from finding out. There is much more, recorded. 816-686-2612, KC, MO
An estate is probated in the county in which the person died. In most states, a beneficiary is not entitled to even ask for an accounting until over a year after the court appoints an executor. This gives the executor time to file the final income tax return, assemble the assets and pay at least some of the creditors. If a sufficient amount of time has passed, your Iowa probate attorney can demand an accounting.
