This might be an issue of either unclaimed property or vehicle abandonment. I bought my neighbors property. They had a valuable 26' yacht on a trailer parked on it. 2008 McGregor M26 with dual outboards... really nice boat that all of my neighbors are drooling on. It didn't go through probate when he died. It's unclaimed property. It's been here since I bought the property in 2015 (he passed in 2013, so, they knew about it, just never did anything with it and they're unresponsive). I would like to take title and sell it. I've stored it long enough. We maintained it, now it's in my huge garage. We had to exchange the tire on the trailer to move it around. What can we do?
It should have been included in the probate Inventory. Send a letter to the executor and the probate attorney certified mail return receipt requested requiring that the executor pick it up within 30 days and notify them that after that it will be considered abanonned property. Include an invoice for the tire and the cost of storage. If you like, offer to buy the boat from the estate. Keep a copy of the letter. You will need it to transfer title if they do nothing.
