My father-in-law died and left us a broken down car that is not even worth going through probate court to inherit. Is there any way I can legally dump the vehicle?

You can refuse a gift. However, in california inheriting a car shouldn't require going through probate. Check the DMV "transfer without probate" form. Good luck. -John
