Can We file a lawsuit against our stepmom?

More details to this question:
My Dad passed away,he had 6 kids,two by his wife an the rest outside,no will was presented.My stepmom told me after dad's death"your dad has a book with some information inside but I don't know where to find it at the moment"it was never brought forward and none of his assets was shared with any of his 4 kids outside.
