how do I apply for a lost title to my car when it is still in my fiance's name and he is deceased

hello my fiance bought me a 97 BMW I didn't have a Texas ID at the time so he put the title in his name he died before we put it in my name and now on top of all that is lost how do I apply for a lost title when the title is still in my life fiance's name? Since you were not married, you cannot file a DMV Affidavit of Heirship. If there was no Will, the heirs will have to file and then gift you the car. Depending on the circumstances, they may need to file a DMV Affidavit of Heirship, an Affidavit of Small Estate or an Application to Determine Heirs and Issue Letters of Administration. They should see a local probate lawyer to determine which.
