QUESTION

How do I contest a will?

Asked on Aug 19th, 2014 on Wills and Probate - California
More details to this question:
My father died on June 14 2013 in California and I was not notified until July 2014, I was sent a copy of In Re Estate of my father dated June 23 2013 naming me as beneficiary however I was never sent a copy of the will, death certificate or contacted by the personal representative or his attorney. They informed me by phone when I called and inquired about my fathers death that they had attempted to contact me by mail for a year however I was living for five years at the same address I received the most recent documents a year later. I was only given a small portion of the estate and again informed I was written out of the will in December 2004 a month after I last saw my father yet had continued to have contact by mail with him well into 2005. I feel something is not right and being hidden from me. Am I correct?

If you received a copy of papers filed with the court, you can go to the court and review the file.  If the courthouse is too far, there are services in the public domain that can copy the entire file and give it to you. You'll see a copy of the will. After reviewing the court file, you can assess what course to take.
