How long is the probate process?

More details to this question:
I applied to have my mom's will probated. I need to know if I can have an estate sale for the contents of the home willed to me while the will is still in probate.

The actual probate process - registering the will - only takes a few days.  When it is completed, the surrogate will provide you with certificates indicating you are the person in charge of the estate.  You should wait until you have those before you begin disposing of estate assets.
