My husband and I lived with his mom the last 5 years, 2 of which she wasn't living there and took a job in another state and we were left in charge of the home. She recently passed away and we moved out, now his family is accusing us of taking things that we didn't own, when we simply took what belonged to us and left her things alone for the probate process. They are threatening to have the cops come after us even when we have proof of ownership as in paid receipts of what belongs to us, high value wise like lawn mowers, pressure washer, furniture and televisions
While they can file a suit for conversion (converting her goods to yours), from your description it appears likely that they will lose and unlikely that there will be any criminal charge for which to answer.
