I am looking for a good contingency lawyer or one that specializes in inheritance issues regarding no will law. My father won 1.6 Million dollars from a lawsuit against a pharmacutical company many years ago, and all I saw from that was 1,500$ and I was told that I was "lucky" to get any at all since my father was not obligated to give me any of it. My father passed on July 24th of 2016 and left no will or instruction to me or any other family member, so it is on my brother's word alone that he had no law and no intention of allowing me any inheritance from the house in both their names or any finances left after his death. My brother recently texted me asking me to sign away my share of my father's share in the house and finances so that he could get a mortgage and remodel the house. I would be willing to work out a plan of payment when the case is one, but I can not afford to pay upfront.
If your father dies without a Will, any heir (such as you, assuming that he died unmarried) can file an Application for Determination of Heirship and Issuance of Letters of Administration. You may be pleasantly surprised at how little this costs in Texas (at least compared to other states). Find a probate lawyer in the county in which your father died using the Find a Lawyer function. If cannot work out the financial arrangements, you may be eligible for the "modest means" program of Lawyer Referral Services in your area or for representation through Volunteer Legal Services.
