Should I accept money from an estate. Before probate.

More details to this question:
I just lost my father first of December. My oldest brother is the executor of the estate. Do not have a great relationship with him. He said that he was going to write me a check from the bank accounts. But I’m scared to except any checks, Not sure if he would be able to say he had already settled up with me.

The only check you should accept is one from the estate's bank account.
